HACKER,
BETWEEN CRIMINAL AND NATIONAL ASSET
The development of IT (
information and technology) creates a new kind of criminals, namely “ hacker “. Hacker is someone who seeks the
weakness of computer network and
computer system. The hacker can do many things for the weakness of system, Such
as deface ( change the home appearance of sites ), steal the personal datum,
change the important datum and even deactivate the site. There are two kinds of
hacker, the white
hat ( professional hacker ) and the black hat ( non
professional hacker, well-known as cracker ).
There are many cyber crime cases in the world, such as The
Central Bank that hacked by anonymous ( international Hacker team ) and Estonia
as the first nation that get cyber war from Uni soviet in 2007. At the time,
the hacker of soviet hacked government’s computer network, finance and medias of Estonia they even deactivated the installation of electricity, and, as a
consequence, the society couldn’t buy any food, gas, and bank transaction in
cyber world for some days.
It is still fresh in our mind about the case of the president
of Indonesia’s site which hacked by “Jemberhacker team”,Wildan (22). Wildan
defaced the president’s site. He neither stole nor changed any important
information of the site. Fortunately, police cyber crime arrested wildan in Jember. Because of Wildan
arrest, there are many reactions came from international hacker team. Anonymous
for instance, they threatened will hack many national sites of Indonesia if
Wildan still arrested.
Obviously, cyber crime or hacking is a kind of felony, it
is done by someone to tinker other system illegally. The hacker changed the
appearance of national sites like wildan has done. It’s clearly a felony, As a
result, wildan must get punishment. Even though wildan didn’t steal any
information but he did it without any permission.
Wildan has done the criminal. In spite of this, he
reminded the president that www.presidensby.com
was really weak. It was so easy to hack the site. Furthermore, the weakness was
found by non-political one so there was
no fatal damage of the site. We can imagine if the hacker is the one who has
specific interest for president such politic, he will change many datum, steal
them and even deactivate the site. In other words, wildan has helped the
president to be more careful with his site and remind him to pay more attention
with the hacker.
I personally think that hacker is not danger forever.
They are master in cyber world, they can protect the country by cyber war and
they can control the weakness of computer both system and network and then cure
the weakness. In Wildan case, it’s clearly a criminal on the one hand, but on
the other hand wildan can be A National Asset. Not only wildan but also all of
the hackers must be guided and appreciated by government.
In conclusion, hackers are considerable groups in every
nation to guard their own country from the danger of cyber word. Wildan and
their friends are national assets if they get appropriate treatments. Like what
anonymous says “ no army can arrest an idea “
